What do Termites Look Like?
Termites are commonly mistakenly know as “white ants” which is incorrect. They are actually more closely related to cockroaches than ants. With over 3000 different species of termites, the majority of these are related to the Termitidae family. There are an estimated 360 different species of termites located in Australia. The majority of termites in Australia are ground dwelling and nests are found in tress or underground and can form mounds protruding up from ground level. Termites are usually transparent or white in colour as they don’t wonder in the open as predators such as ants and other insects will attack and try and destroy the colony. They remain hidden within their tunnels connected to the main nest for the majority of their lives.
IMPORTANT ADVICE: DO NOT disturb termite activity if found. They are very timid and will leave the area once disturbed. This will limit the pest control treatment we can provide. Using AG (above ground) termite monitoring stations or being able to provide an active termite treatment is only possible if we can find activity. Many people panic and destroy the mud trails, spray the activity with insect spray, pour diesel on them, set them on fire (trust us, it has happened) and therefore we are unable to use these options. If they are disturbed and we can no longer find any activity, the only other option is to provide a full termite treatment at a far more expensive cost.
How much does a termite treatment cost?
There are many different options pest control termite treatments. Anything from our active termite treatments that can cost as little as $200 to a full termite treatment including sub floors, drill and injection or supply and installation of termite monitoring stations that are pre baited (also called always active). A full termite service for an average house will cost in excess of $1000. For a no obligation free estimate, please complete our booking form here, and request a quote. We will send you a termite management proposal that follows Australian standards that will explain the process, what treatment you required, cost, any limitations and more.
There is no 100% guarantee service that will remove termites from any domestic or commercial building. Only good practice including using quality products and following recommended procedure via product label and Australian Standards can remove the risk of termite attack. Our company policy is: “We don’t use generic products”. All pest control products are sourced from research and development companies for example FMC, BASF and Bayer. Please see below for further prices.
Do Termites attack hardwood?
There are some termite resistant timbers but don’t believe what you hear about Jarrah. Termites will attack hardwoods as you can see in photo below. Softwoods are more likely to be attacked at a faster rate such as untreated pine, but termites will attack hardwoods as well.
Jarrah roof trusses attacked by termites
We always recommend a timber pest inspection before we proceed with any termite treatment, incase they have entered the building. Termites can be trapped inside a building after the installation of a termite barrier and can continue to cause damage without your knowledge. Best to be safe then sorry. The following video was taken of a property in the Adelaide hills. The owner found termite activity in a door frame and tried to solve the problem himself. The footage tells the rest of the story.
Termite Treatments
Active Termite Treatments
This service is only available if you have active termites. The pest control products are designed to work if placed within the area where termites are attacking timbers in the building. If you have disturbed any termite activity which includes spraying them with some kind of insect spray, poured diesel on them (trust me it happens), removed the material where they were present, then we are unable to provide this service and a preventative treatment (please see below) is your last option.
Non Repellant Foaming:
From $250
This service is designed to stop any further damage to the area where termites are attacking. The product will not kill the termites immediately and is transferred from one termite to 25 others. This treatment has limited ability to eliminate the colony particularly if the nest is a reasonable distance from the treatment area. We recommend a full termite treatment after 14 days of this service. A full termite treatment (see below) is also recommend after the 14 day inspection period.
See here a video of how this is applied
Termite Baiting:
From $250
Internal baiting stations must be installed on active termites. The station is designed to entice the termites into the station where bait is installed. The termites feed on the bait and pass onto the colony. The bait is consumed by the majority of the termites over a period of months. The bait inhibits the ability of the individual termites to synthesize chitin. Termites are unable to produce chitin and therefore moult a bit like crabs and change their exoskeleton. The bait inhibits this process and as the majority of the colony is infected, whole generations collapse and the colony is eliminated as a consequence. The bait stations need to be monitored/inspected on a monthly basis to install more bait if needed until the termites stop feeding.
Termite Station Inspections: From $170
If the termite colony is highly active/aggressive, the bait can be consumed in under 4 weeks. The bait will need to be replaced to encourage the termites to continue feeding. This will allow for more termites to be affected by the bait and gives a higher chance of colony elimination.
Full Termite Treatments
We recommend a termite inspection before engaging in any termite treatment.
There are numerous termite services we provide. The building design will determine what service you will require. If the building has a sub floor, built on piers where there is access under the floor, usually timber floor boards, the service required is:
Sub Floor Flood
The ratio of treatment is 2-5 litres per square meter dependant on soil type that needs to be applied to the under floor area. There are 2 product options of a repellant (kills on contact) and creates a barrier to prevent termites entering the area. Or a non repellant that is transferred from termite to termite in a ratio of 25/1. If one termite is infected, it is designed to pass onto 25 others. The benefits to a repellant product is that it lasts longer, up to 10 years and is less expensive, where the non repellant last up to 7 years and is more expensive, but has the ability of colony elimination. This is beneficial if you are unable to locate the termite nest.

If the dwelling is built on a concrete slab, then the treatment require is called:
Drill and Injection
We dill a 10mm hole using a masonry bit and a hammer drill every 300mm apart and approx 150mm from the building. We probe the drill hole with 2-3 litres of termidiciide. Again there are 2 options we provide. A barrier treatment or non repellent. Please be aware, if you have tiles, painted concrete, older poured limestone or pavers, chipping can occur in the process of drilling.
Prices are subject to conditions. Some buildings may require drilling of concrete areas e.g. verandahs, bathrooms, laundries etc. that will incur additional costs.
Termite Monitoring Stations
We also offer the supply and installation of termite monitoring stations. These are designed to discover termite activity in advance of them gaining access to the building. There are 2 options:
1) Traditional stations with regular timber (usually pine) installed to entice termites to enter and feed
2) Stations installed with “always active” baits.
Traditional stations use standard timbers and bait is added once activity is found. The “always active” are baits already installed into the station. With both station inspections are required every 3 months unless activity is found. If activity is present, inspections are required once a month. This is to confirm the termites are feeding. Re-baiting may be required if the termites finish the bait provided. Once feeding ceases, it can be assumed the colony has been eliminated. This can take months depending on when the colony is required to moult. (See explanation above “termite baiting”) Benefits of stations over barriers is there is minimal chemical used. The down side is the ongoing inspections that are required to assure termites are found before they enter the building and while they are feeding.
